Homage to Dumas

Recently the fashion industry lost yet another icon. At the age of 72, Jean-Louis Dumas has died. Dumas ran Hermes for almost 3 decades and has been hailed as an "emblem of French luxury". He began his career as an Assistant Buyer for Bloomingdales before joining the family business in 1964. I personally admired his beginning as a Buyer, maybe because that was the beginning of my career in fashion as well. There's certainly something to be said for working your way up in the industry from the ground up.

Whether you've been fortunate to own one of the coveted Hermes Birkin Bag or simply an Hermes scarf or not, I'm sure you can appreciate the luxury exuded by the Hermes franchise. Dumas was a visionary! He was able to attract top designers like Jean-Paul Gaultier who reinvented the Hermes women's ready-to-wear collection. Such genius will certainly be missed.
