Black Dress - 10 Contemporary Fashion Designers
Recently I had the opportunity to attend the Pratt Manhattan Gallery "Black Dress" exhibit.
Black Dress celebrates ten black designers who each possess a singular vision and perhaps just as importantly the resourcefulness and perseverance to succeed in the fashion world. This exhibition at Pratt explores how the background of each designer has affected their work.
Today's resourceful designers have sought financing through Kickstarter campaigns, online boutiques, and expose through reality tv. As an alternative to the established fashion retail destinations of Madison and Fifth Ave, the exhibition design of Black Dress offers the imagined destination "Style Avenue", a mock street scene in the gallery, complete with shop windows.
Featured Designers include: Jeffery Banks, Michael Jerome Francis, Byron Lars, Samantha Black, Stephen Burrows, Tracy Reese, Donna Dove, Omar Salam, Epperson and LaQuan Smith.
