Destination Brooklyn - FW|BK


BK|Style Foundation (BK|SF) and Fashion Week Brooklyn (FW|BK) kick off their SS 2016 collection theme “Destination Brooklyn”with the Brooklyn Borough President Office at 10AM on Tuesaday, October 20th with a press conference and mini fashion presentation at Brooklyn Borough Hall.

The next destination is a round of public installments at FW|BK sponsors’ localities BRIC Arts Media House “Handmade Abstract” exhibit, and the “Beauty for Freedom” exhibit hosted by Art in Motion Show at Brooklyn Law School, which run through the entire week. Wednesday’s press events conclude with an invite-only press reception for HIV Awareness at Out of the Closet on 475 Atlantic Ave at 6:30PM, hosted by FW|BK sponsor AIDs Health Foundation.

Thursday night is the first major runway experience of eco-friendly and innovative designers including: kids designer Jenny V Fashion; designers from W. H. Maxwell Career and Technical Education High School; and BK Style Student Mentees Deannelys Corcino Cruz (DCH) and Ixele Akinmowo-Simon (Loose Canon). FW|BK partner Live Stream Public is hosting and live-streaming the invite-only event at their Morgan Avenue location.

BK Style and Beautiful Strangers support for Denim Day NYC returns to BK|FW with their “Denim Night Out” fundraiser on Friday, October 23rd, a public event that is curated by Art for Progress, hosted at the Habana Outpost Café from 6:30PM-10:30PM. Denim Day NYC partners with several nonprofit organizations and programs to raise awareness of sexual assault and violence. The Collections of Men’s Ready-to-wear fashion will be presented Friday night with sponsor Downtown Brooklyn Partnership at the event location sponsor Brooklyn Law School. Red carpet begins at 6:00PM with Nafsi Groove Band opening the evening show. Menswear designers include Zam Barrett and KitWoo.

On Saturday, October 24th, sponsor Red Hook Lab will be hosting a  runway collection of national and international designers with The New Tarot Band will opening the evening show. Spring/Summer  2016 Couture and Ready-to-wear collections include: Joyce Pilarsky from the Philippines; LubOV TumanOVA of Belarus; and Claire Consigny & Millesim Collection of France.

“Destination Brooklyn” finishes its runway collections on Sunday with designers A—Z by Aleksandra Ziravac, Alton Toussaint, John Guarnes, Yangie NY, and Project Runway Winner Irina Shabayeva at Red Hook Lab.
