Five Reasons to See Mexico City

With a favorable exchange rate, convenient airlift access and an endless list of rich experiences at your fingertips, Mexico City should be at the top of your holiday getaway list.

It’s never too late to find out for yourself why this must-visit city was one of the top googled travel destinations in 2016. I had the pleasure of being invited out to Mexico City a few months ago and I had a wonderful time!

Here are five reasons why you should visit:

1.       #1 Place to Go in 2016 by The New York Times
As the number one destination on The New York Times “52 Places to Go in 2016” list, there’s never been a better time to visit. The publication touted Mexico City as “a metropolis that has it all,” and says it topped this year’s list for its renowned culinary scene, distinct neighborhoods, forward-thinking design offerings, improved safety, increased airlift and transportation as well as the Pope’s visit early this year.

Seriously, if you want to talk about food...it's one of the number one reasons to go to Mexico City (if you're a foodie like me). Let me show you why... (All photos by StyleMayvin)

Yes...that's Octopus and yes...it was pretty freaking amazing.

Also tried roasted grasshoppers in my Guac...not bad actually. I would definitely have it again.

This one wasn't my fav...Escamoles aka Ant Eggs. Yup. Nope.

And last but not least because seafood is my favorite and they know how to do this well! Pre cracked crab legs! Amazingly good.

2.       Favorable Exchange RateOne of the most compelling reasons to consider Mexico City for your next vacation: the most favorable exchange rates for U.S. consumers in over a decade. The current Mexican peso to USD exchange allows for more affordable international travel and an opportunity to experience more for less.

Now, I wouldn't be the StyleMayvin if I didn't tell you that there is some amazing shopping to be done in Mexico City and we all know that I am so here's just a glimpse of some of the MC glamour.

3.       Events & Festivals
Mexico City is home to many colorful and exciting events throughout the year, from centuries-old traditions to modern-day festivals. With major events taking place almost monthly – spanning arts, culture and music to world-class sporting events – there is never a dull moment in the country’s capital city.

There's so much to do in Mexico City but if you're there and you have a chance I strongly urge you to go check out the Lucha Libre. Like seriously...it will undoubtedly be the most fun you have EVER had!

4.       Easy AccessAn easily accessible destination, more than 150 direct flights travel to Mexico City each day from international locations via nonstop, affordable flights. Mexico City Benito Juarez International Airport is just eight miles away from the downtown area, and easily accessible by public transportation. Mexico City has more than 130,000 taxis – more than 10 times of those in New York City – as well as UBER service and a bike share program that makes getting around the city a breeze.

I enjoyed a nice flight on United Airlines and stayed at the Condesa df hotel in what I believe was one of the best parts of Mexico City. I absolutely loved the decor and location of the hotel and the service was phenomenal.

5.       Arts & Cuisine
Visitors will find that Mexico City’s bustling art and culinary scenes offer rich experiences for those with varying interests. From world-renowned chefs and restaurants such as Pujol and Quintonil, to casual cantinas like Cantina Riviera del Sur, Mexico City has truly become a culinary trendsetter on a global scale. The city boasts more than 150 museums offering a rich a blend of both old and new, with rich history on display at museums such as Museo Nacional de Antropología, Palacio Bellas Artes and Museo Frida Kahlo.

Since I've already talked about the cuisine in Mexico city (which is totally worth mentioning again), let me show you just a little about the arts and culture. There's no way I can express what an interesting city this is but hopefully by sharing a few of the photos from experiences I had there, you will be intrigued enough to visit!

As the country’s premier tourism destination, Mexico City welcomes millions of visitors per year who explore its colorful neighborhoods and immerse themselves in the vibrant culinary, art, architecture, fashion and design scenes, among many others. Yup...as you can see I absolutely LOVED my adventures in Mexico City and believe me...when you go, you will too! Oh, and one last thing...don't forget to have a bottle of Mezcal while you're there. Well...maybe not an entire bottle all at once but definitely at least a glass. Cheers!
