T.Strong - Spring 2011 Accessories

2011 Spring Trends

As the weather begins to warm up, all I can think about is the key looks and must have fashion items for the season! There are so many fabulous new trends and I simply cannot wait to wear them all but there are three that top my list. 70's Glamour, Sheer & Lace and Chunky Wooden Heel Shoes.

We all want that vintage vibe as part of our wardrobe and what better way to swing back the hands of time than embracing 70's Glamour. Everything from 70's boho to a more sophisticated 70's look, this season brings out the white washed denim, bell bottoms and peasant tops! Bright bold prints and stripes were all the rage on the runway and should be staples in your closet this Spring season as well.
Some of fashion's Fall trends are moving into Spring as well. The Maxi dress goes see through, lace continues to be a delicate accent and crochet makes an appearance in trim. These are eye-catching items that are back in full swing and are perfect in basic colors like cream, black and white. Worn with sandals in the warmer Summer months or with ankle boots and a chunky cardigan while transitioning into Spring.

No look is complete without the perfect shoe. The “it” shoe of the moment is anything with a chunky wooden heel. Some styles are reminiscent of the 70's era as well but with an more current twist. Surprisingly, they are a bit more comfortable than they look. Although we LOVE the stiletto, the chunkier heel is certainly easier on your feet.

2011 Grammy's Red Carpet

There were a lot of pretty extreme looks on the Red Carpet last night during the Grammy's that ran the gamut from strange, fashionable, confusing and just downright weird. fashion goes, there were a number of classy, chic looks as well. Here's my top three picks for best dressed.

Jennifer Lopez never ceases to amaze me on the Red Carpet. She was super stunning in a silver Emilio Pucci dress, Christian Louboutin shoes (of course), Cartier jewels and a Goa crystal clutch. Although it is extremely short and cleavage bearing, J-Lo pulls it off effortlessly. I love the look and I think it is absolutely perfect for the Grammy's.
Julianne Hough's flowing gown by Randi Rahm was a hit! I wonder if her boyfriend (Ryan Seacrest) was helpful in picking this one out. Hmmm... Well, no matter who takes credit for approving this elegant look, she looked fabulous from head to toe.

Rounding out the top three for me is Selena Gomez. I am truly beginning to like this young lady's style. At 18 years old, she choose a gold J Mendel dress, Lorainne Schwartz jewels, Brian Atwood shoes and a Judith Leiber clutch...flawless! Although the dress is a bit toned down, I must say I honestly appreciate that she didn't go so far out there and show too such skin like some of the other young, pop idols. Love the look Selena...keep doing what you're doing!

Prabal Gurung - Fall 2011

Prabal Gurung's Fall 2011 Collection is simply AMAZING!

His brand launched only 2 years ago and the first lady has already worn his designs. Does it get any better than that?'s not a fluke. His fashion mind is fabulous! Example: Yesterday's NYFW show opened with sexy yet chic red dress and every look that followed made my head spin. Literally, every piece of the collection is 100% wearable and I would LOVE to (and NEED to) wear them ALL!!!
When you're in this industry you know that not only must the clothing wow everyone, it's also all about the details. My favorite detail?...the black criss-cross tights. Loved them with every look!

CFDA-Vogue Fashion Fund Fashion Show

As NYFW kicks offs go, Thursday night's exclusive CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Fashion Show was the HOTTEST ticket in town however, Lincoln Center hosted the dazzling runway show to American Express Card members only. What a way to woo the consumers! Sorry members of the press...

The genius initiative pushed by Vogue and the CFDA as they did with September's Fashion's Night Out events; "the aim is to lift the velvet rope to fashion fans, which encourages them to spend more..." seems to be working.

The show went on for almost 20 minutes and featured a total of 60 looks! Among those showing their most memorable looks from their Spring 2011 collections (because Spring is what's currently hitting stores although it debuted for press and buyers in September 2010) were fashion favorites Marchesa, Alexander Wang, Phillip Lim, and Proenza Schouler (photo left). Then to add the cherry on top, guests were introduced to the store by the always fabulous Andre Leon Talley, Vogue's Editor at Large. What an evening!

Treat Yourself with DVF

Diane von Fürstenberg (DVF) is one my favorite designers. She is best known for her iconic wrap dress which I believe any woman of any size or stature can wear. This former real life Princess, started her career in 1970 with $30,000 and is still going strong.

This Valentine's day, why not treat yourself with an awesome piece from her collection? I don't know about you but that's the best idea I've heard all day! And...if you shop online NOW, you can take $50 off any purchase of $250 or more! Just enter the code "LOVE" at checkout and the discount is yours! Thanks for sharing the "LOVE" DVF!

Christiann Suriano - NYFW 2011

I usually really enjoy viewing the Christian Suriano collection and this season is no different however, I'm wondering if the models were having a really hard time walking the runway or can we blame all the "bloopers" on the shoes? You decide... Enjoy the show!

Valentine's Day for Him

I had such a fabulous cyber-time last year guest blogging for my friends over a un refinery and since their post here on StyleMayvin for Valentine's Day was so well received, we thought it would be a spectacular idea to do it again! These guys really know their stuff ladies so if you're still mulling over what to get your special guy for the big day, here's a few ideas!

un refinery: Guys generally have no idea where to start with fragrance, which explains why the purveyors of crap like Axe Body Spray successfully prey upon so many of us. At the same time, however, women have a tough time choosing scents that we're comfortable wearing. Here are a couple of safe options to consider:

1. Ralph Lauren Big Pony Collection (around $50/2.5 oz) -- a great, affordable way to get started with fragrance. While we continue to ridicule all clothing bearing the comically huge pony logo, this line is really fresh and wearable. Most critics carry on about the musky #2 mix, which seems formulated for evenings in and is very nice, but for everyday wear we like the clean and modern #4 with its subtle citrus edge.

2. Creed Green Irish Tweed (around $120/2.5 oz) -- the créme de la créme with a price tag to match. A delicious and almost universally appreciated mix of masculine spices and sandalwood with sophisticated, subtle floral hints. Originally created for Cary Grant, we're told. If that's a bulls**t story, well, at least it's a good one, and this intoxicating stuff is worthy of a leading man for sure.

Finally, whichever you choose, get the man some Mitchum anti-perspirant ($4), which has no scent whatsoever. The last thing you want after carefully selecting a fragrance you both enjoy is to have it completely overpowered by his Old Speed Stick Spice Fresh Burst Extreme Power Sport deodorant.

National Wear Red Day

If you're reading this post while preparing tomorrow's look, I'm here to remind you that Friday 2/4/11 is National Wear Red Day!

Calling all fashionistas! In support of the fight against heart disease in women, we should all be wearing read as the pop color of the day. It is simple enough to run out and grab a beautiful red scarf, hat or another simple yet stunning accessory to complete your look. There's simply no excuse as red compliments almost everything! Let me show you just how easy it can be...

If you are in any state that is enjoying (and I use that term VERY loosely) the treacherous blizzards, this would be perfect for you. The Mossimo Trapper Hat available at your local Target store is chic, trendy and affordable! Only $24.99

One of the greatest items to help you transition from colder weather into Spring (for those who are not currently suffering through huge amounts of snow) are light weight jackets/coats and cardigans. Who doesn't have a red coat? I know I do! Well, maybe some people don't so here's the perfect option. The stylish boucle' blazer ($37.80) available at Forever 21 definitely fits the bill!

I challenge you all to show your support, wear something red on Nationa Wear Red Day! And...another great way you can make a difference is to DONATE. Whether you choose to contribute, $25 or $500, it will definitely be money well spent!

For more about National Wear Red Day and the American Heart Association check out Go Red For Women.
