The Fashion Net Awards

FASHION NET, which introduced the world of fashion to the Internet when it launched in January 1995, connects premium fashion and luxury brands with millions of influential trendsetters and fashion-savvy consumers each year. As it celebrates the 20th anniversary of its historic launch, FASHION NET is holding another world's first: the online-only FASHION NET Awards.
With 27 wide-ranging industry categories, including “Womenswear Designer of the Year,” “Designer of the Year,” “Brand of the Year,” and “Lifetime Achievement,” four finalists have made the cut in each group, and features some of fashion’s great luminaries such as John Galliano, Phoebe Philo, Riccardo Tisci and Sarah Burton. The full list at https://www.fashion.net/awards

Winners will be announced on September 17th, the last day of NYFW.

"The FASHION NET Awards recognize the exceptional talents of innovators and influencers in fashion as we enter a new era," says Stig Harder, Founder. "An increasingly omnipresent Internet is kindling an entirely new way of interacting with fashion, where changes in trends and tastes come about with the immediacy of a world where eventually nothing is offline."

Presented by QUINTESSENTIALLY and supported by ACADEMY OF ART UNIVERSITY, BLCK INK, GEN ART and ALICE BOW, the FASHION NET Awards is a celebration of excellence and vision in the fashion industry worldwide. The selection of this year’s nominees and winners are made by the FASHION NET Awards Committee, consisting of FASHION NET editors and leading fashion industry professionals.

A baby’s hair may double in thickness by their second birthday, but remains more delicate than adult hair. Baby hair is more prone to breakage, and for this reason, JOHNSON’S NO MORE TANGLES regimen is formulated with hair conditioners that gently moisturize as they cleanse, to help hair grow.

These lovely little models show us how it's done! And it's as simple as one, two, three!

The three-step regimen is essential for maintaining healthy-looking and nourished hair.

Step 1: JOHNSON’S NO MORE TANGLES shampoo & conditioner leaves hair beautiful
and easy to manage, cleanses with extra conditioners for healthy looking and fresh smelling hair.
Leaves hair easier to comb/manage without feeling weighed down. (Paraben free, phthalate free and triclosan free) The "NO MORE TEARS" formula is as gentle to eyes as pure water and it's available for Thick Curly hair and Straight Thin hair.

Step 2: JOHNSON’S NO MORE TANGLES leave-in-conditioner controls wild frizz and tangles for silky, shiny hair. It's light weight formula helps to unlock stubborn tangles and gently conditions toddlers hair to leave it soft and manageable. NO MORE TANGLES Shampoos and conditioners help toddles hair stay smooth and strong to help prevent breakage.

Step 3: JOHNSON’S® NO MORE TANGLES® detangling spray instantly unlocks stubborn
knots in wet or dry hair. Works to instantly unlock knots and tangles to improve manageability for easy trouble free combing. Gentle NO MORE TEARS formula helps to lubricate hair, helping it stay strong so it will break less.

Cinch It In

I've been seeing and hearing about all types of waist trainers and the potential dangers of wearing them but I thought to myself, there has to be a safer way to cinch your waist in a comfortable yet stylish way. You know it's all about the foundations you wear when it comes to looking the best you can in your clothes. Wearing the right bra changes things and apparently wearing the right shape wear plays a huge part as well. Even the most fit celebrities in the world sometimes wear some sort of shape wear for their red carpet appearances so why shouldn't you?

The Mother Tucker Corset is not a waist trainer, rather it uses bendable stays, soft boning and 2 layers of  SecureStretch to provide gentle compression and maximum adjust-ability.  I tried it and guess what gals? I LOVE it!

But where did the corset come from? As per Wikipedia, the corset has been an important article of clothing for several centuries, evolving as fashion trends have changed. Women, as well as some men, have used it to change the appearance of their bodies. The corset first became popular in sixteenth-century Europe, reaching the zenith of its popularity in the Victorian era. The earliest image of a possible corset was made ca. 2000 BC. The image is of a Cretan woman, and the article of clothing depicted might be perceived as a corset; however, it is worn as an outer-garment. While the corset has typically been worn as an undergarment, it has occasionally been used as an outer-garment; corsets as outer-garments can be seen in the national dress of many European countries.

So...here's the thought for the day..."Don't force it, just Corset"! The Mother Tucker Corset is a wardrobe essential that's comfortable enough to wear all day and thin enough to hide under your clothes. Created with 2 layers of SecureStretch material for double compression, this smart corset slims your waist and tummy while concealing bothersome back bulge. The soft boning ensures the corset will stay in place without rolling or digging, and the lightweight and breathable fabric provides maximum comfort. The 6-hook design allows for greater adjust-ability and compression. While the corset is off, tighten it by going down a row or two and get ready to step into your new shape!

H&M + 70's Style

I've been talking about this 70's comeback since the beginning of the year and finally I'm seeing all these styles I love coming into my favorite fast fashion stores. When I talked about it in my 70's Love post, I had no idea this trend would pretty much take over my fashion "must-have" list but it totally has.

Take a look at H&M and Top Model Laura Stone as they show us how it's done.

New Faces at Tiffany & Co.

I'm a huge fan of Dutch model Imaan Hammam. I love her look and am super excited to see her in the new Tiffany & Co fall-winter 2015 campaign.

Photographed by Mario Sorrenti and styled by Tabitha Simmons, Imaan wears the Tiffany Infinity line of bracelets with a ruffled blouse. These bracelets I absolutely LOVE...could someone please tell my Hubby?

For more Imaan, see her recent Vogue Netherlands cover.

My New Beauty BFF

I've been experimenting with a fabulous new find... Sweet Almond Oil by GuruNanda. Since I've also been practicing meditation for the past year or so and now getting into yoga as well, this was the perfect addition to health and wellness regimen. I mean, why not? You skin should be just as healthy as your mind and spirit. With my new beauty BFF, it's all about the body baby!

Almonds are generally known as healthy food but guess what? These vitamin, fatty acid and anti-oxident packed little gems can also do wonders for the skin and hair! This Sweet Almond Oil is like "almond joy" in a bottle. Seriously...it makes my skin happy!

So, how did they do it? Sweet almond oil is made by pressing raw sweet almonds without cooking them. So it's "cold pressed" like a fine olive oil. Side note: I have a Carribean friend that used olive oil as a skin moisturizer frequently and we had an experience with it at Miami beach many moons ago... It's a long story and one I'll probably never share but let's just say it was a very interesting beach trip. Anyway...the fact that this oil is made using little to no heat, all of the nutrients in the oil are preserved and are poised and ready to make your skin feel AH-MAZ-ING!

Sweet Almond Oil not only helps replenish ad maintain the skin's moisture levels but it also can plum and firm skin plus, it is naturally anti-inflamatory and helps sooth irritated skin. Here's all of the wonderful uses for sweet almond oil...most of which I've tried might I add.

  • Makeup Removal
  • Hair conditioning and shine
  • Massage (Definitely use it for this one!)
  • Cuticle treatment
  • Facial oil/moisturizer (Even if you're acne prone because sweet almond oil actually helps to clear this skin. Acne forming oil produced by the skin, called sebum is very different from processed almond oil because it clogs the pores but the fatty acids in sweet almond oil actually help dissolve the sebum. Pow! Take that acne!)
  • Shaving Oil
  • During/after a bath of shower
  • Anti-wrinkle and fine lines
  • Aromatherapy
  • Mix with sugar to make a delightful exfoliating scrub (OK? Seriously...this stuff is great!)
  • Stretchmarks
  • Post-Sun
  • And yes...even lip balm.
How can you get yours? It's available at Amazon.com. You can thank me later for sharing my new BFF with you.

3D Printed Shoes - TechSTYLE

My readers know I'm kinda addicted to shoes but what I really love is finding something new and unique and this find is even more exciting because it combines my love of fashion with my love of technology.

Shoe designer Julian Hakes has been shaking up the fashion world after reinventing the standard for shoe production by using 3D printing in his design process. Hakes, tired of repetitive shoe designs, was inspired to create a new type of shoe structure after observing how footprints appear in the sand. This idea inspired the Mojito Shoe, a playful, spiral-shaped high heel that is both stylish and protective.

To bring his innovative concept to life, Hakes turned to an Ultimaker2 3D printer to accurately produce different prototypes of the elaborate shoe. With offices in London and Hong Kong, Hakes chose to use the Ultimaker2 to flawlessly and efficiently turn his idea into reality between his offices and employees. Hakes’ revolutionary shoe is available for consumer purchase and has been featured in fashion magazines such as Vogue and Elle. What do you think of it?

Style Edit

Recently I found out about a really wonderful new root touch up system that I think you're all going to LOVE!  How many times have you been between color treatments and needed a little root touchup or looked in the mirror and noticed a few unwanted grey's (or as I like to call them, "glitter sparkles") and thought to yourself, I gotta get to the salon? But who has time? If you're like me and you're so busy that every single thing has to be scheduled, you need a little something to hold you over in between hair appointments.

Can you imagine concealing gray roots in the amount of time it takes to reapply lipstick? Style Edit, the brand that continues to introduce the hair products of your imagination, is excited to launch its latest innovation that makes this dream a reality.

This new pressed binding powder disguises roots and offers a contoured sponge applicator for even more precise coverage. The result? Perfect hair color for at home or on the go. It's an instant, temporary coverage to unwanted grey roots. Here's how it works:

1. It washes out with shampoo
2. There will be no fly-aways or dusting
3. And best of all, it works in seconds.

The binding powder comes in 3 shades, black/dark brown, medium/light brown and lightest brown/medium blonde. Perfectly priced at $24.50, you can't go wrong.

Now, everyone who colors their hair knows the drill right? You leave the salon feeling like a million bucks and in what seems like no time, they greys start showing up to bring you down! Apply Style Edit's Root Concealer, a temporary, conditioning grey root touch up spray that will expertly extend the life of color between salon visits. And the great thing is, this formula does not include mineral oil, petrolatum, parabens or peroxide and is not tested on animals.
This product is available in five shades, black/dark brown, medium/light brown, blonde, auburn/red and lightest brown/medium blonde. (available at $19.50)
