It's a little early to already be so focused on NYC Fashion Week but what's a Style Mayvin if not an early bird? After all, she does get the worm!

September 10, 2009 is the first night of Spring 2010 fashion week and they're kicking it off with a bang. Stores all across the 5 boroughs of New York as well as others around the country will extend their closing hours to 11pm. Yep, you heard me right! further lure potential shoppers in, many stores will have designers, models and celebrity appearances. So, in a fabulous effort to boost the fledgling retail industry out of it's financial slump, even New York's Mayor Bloomberg has embraced the retail sales event, "Fashion's Night Out" and what's an event without a commemorative tee? 40% of the proceeds from sales of the "Fashion's Night Out" t-shirt (available in August) will go to the National September 11th Memorial & Museum.

To find out more, to register or stay "In the KNOW" about the "Fashion's Night Out" event, visit: Are you ready for Fashion Week? One hundred and eleven days and counting...

Product Review!

There's nothing better than receiving a nicely wrapped package in the mail with fashion swag inside and believe me when I say...Style Mayvin loves nothing better than a good product review!

"When Giacomo Ronzoni set up Minoronzoni srl in 1978 it soon established itself as a leading company in the small leather goods and accessories sector, working with the most influential names in Italian and international fashion." Minoronzoni, headquartered in the province of Bergamo just outside Milan, is where the internationally registered brand TOSCA BLU is crafted. Created in 1998, TOSCA BLU is a line of bags, which over the years, along with its shoes, belts and small leather goods has developed into an exclusive total look.

I absolutely LOVE my new TOSCA BLU bag! It's simply Bellissimo! The leather is so supple and the craftsmanship is superb. I thank the "Gods" for my Roman connections (Grazie! xoxo) and if you're ever in Rome, stop into the boutique at: ROMA - Piazza dei Re di Roma, 75/76 | Tel. 06 70301908. Until then, visit

Model Pick of the Month

Wow! What a CoverGirl!

Arlenis Sosa Pena is absolutely stunning on the May 2009 cover of Vogue (Germany). Wearing ready-to-wear Lanvin from the Spring/Summer 2009 collection, this Dominican Republic beauty was discovered in 2006 at an Elite Model Look Competition in her homeland a few weeks shy of her 19th birthday.

She also appeared in the June 2008 U.S. Vogue layout "Is Fashion racist?" with Chanel Iman and Jourdan Dunn. (I still have yet to own a copy of this issue!)

Look out fashion world!

Retail Recession

One of my favorite stores, Henri Bendel is making serious changes as reported by The NY Times. Thinking about the coveted Brown & White shopping bag this news is so sad I could only bear to quote the NY Times reporter.

"A venerable name in New York retailing, Henri Bendel, is planning to stop selling clothes this summer and focus on accessories and beauty products as it struggles to lure shoppers during a prolonged recession. Bendel’s flagship store at 712 Fifth Avenue will also give up one of its three floors, according to the company’s plans. Bendel, a division of Limited Brands, is changing its business model, from the department store that was founded in 1895 to a more mall-like chain selling Bendel-branded beauty and gift items, like an $18 box of tea in the company’s signature brown-and-white stripes. In a news release, the company positioned the changes as a measure for expanding the Henri Bendel brand. Six accessories-only stores are to open this year in shopping centers nationwide."

A Benel's representative was unavailable for comment and I am simply at a loss for words. The mall? Really?

Mother's Day Swag

Mother's Day is quickly approaching so if you still haven't done your last minute shopping for Mom, here's a couple of cute and creative ideas.

Personalize one of America's favorite candies, M&M's. Say "I love you" or "Happy Mother's Day" in the most delectable way. You can even personalize them with your favorite photo!

Is your Mom "Motherlicious"? Well, if Mom is still in great shape and loves to show off her post baby(ies) figure at the beach, why not kidnap her for a fun-in-the-sun getaway at your nearest Oceanside? She certainly would look great in this exotic one piece by La Perla available at La Perla, NYC ($650) 212.219.0999.

If you're more than a few hours drive from the beach and looking to spend a little less on this year's gift, I'm sure she'll appreciate a pool-side or in-home massage just the same. Check out for a massage therapist near you. Show her how much you appreciate all she does by giving her a day of relaxation and solace.

Now, here's one of the BEST inexpensive gifts I've ever seen for a new Mommie! Everything included in this kit is something any new Mom can appreciate.
Available at, this Smart Choice, First Day Kit ($49.99) includes cooling and warming therapy Breast Soothers (which will definitely come in handy if she's breastfeeding), a Health Care Kit and more.

Summer's Ultimate Accessory

It's almost time to head "down the shore" New Jersey fam! Got your beach bum accessories ready?  No?  Well, this is truely worthy of a last minute addition to your list of purchases.

I've always been a bit of a bag freak so bear with me on this one.  After you've picked the perfect bikini, scored the hottest eyewear this year (see previous posts...keep up!) and loaded the ipod touch with your favorite beach tunes, videos and movies for your entertainment pleasure, throw the beach towel and a good book into the most sophisticated LEATHER MESH bag I've ever laid eyes on.  This ingeniously styled, chic handbag by MODUSR!O is available at ($250) in 2 color ways - brown (above) and sand.  And the best thing EXPANDS!  Yep!  The more you carry, the more it expands.  Check it out for yourself!

Pandemic Fashion?

You all know that the Style Mayvin LOVES fashion but designer face masks aimed at protecting us from Swine Flu? Hmmmm.

Reportedly, Louis Vuitton is offering a face mask in the trademark LV print made of Italian leather, Egyptian cotton and the finest Kentucky charcoal. Sounds hot...literally. Also reportedly, (I continue to use that word since I myself have yet to physically see this) there are apparently imitation knock offs that have already begun to circulate in China Town...go figure.

And...this is all so new that I don't even have a real photo people! This one (above) pulled from is clearly photoshop-ed so I guess I'm not the only one. Should this be the new rave - fashionable, surgical face masks - which are also reportedly (there goes that word again) being offered by Donna Karen, Calvin Klein and even Prada, I can't wait to see the price tag!
