Not quite ready for boots...

These are the ABSOLUTE CUTEST! I love, love, love tube socks. It's so 80's basketball-short shorts look but when you add a comfy flop flop to it, whaddya get? ...TUBE FLOPS! Even saying the name makes me smile. Grab these at and hold on to 'em till Spring...unless of course you're on the West Coast and in that case, you guys know what to do.

Who to watch?

Remember cute little Emma Watson from the Harry Potter films? Well, she's just as cute but not so little anymore.

Quickly turning into a British fashionista, Emma graced the red carpets at The Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince Premiere in London in a Vintage 70's Ossie Clark Gown. The girl...excuse me, Young Lady, definitely has good taste. I adore vintage!

Yet another taste-maker to watch out for...Isabel Lucas who stared in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (great movie by the way). She looked stunning at the Tokoyo premiere in a short, white Dior creation.

Python never looked so sexy... I missed this one in 2008 when Katie Holms was photographed with it draped across her arm and apparently, I missed it again as the Chloe Python Paraty Bag ($3820) is even sold out on one of my favorite sites Needless to say, at that price could a representative from Chloe just hook me up? Sheesh! But for those of you would wouldn't mind downgrading to the Paraty Medium Tote, Saks has it for $1895.
Hmmm...does that constitute as a downgrade or upgrade?

2009 Emmy Fashion Fever!

How many times do I have to say I LOVE SIMPLE ELEGANCE?! Sandra Oh definitely got the message. She really hit the nail on the head with this one and interestingly enough, looks slightly reminiscent to an actual Oscar award...Hmmm

Kim Kardashian graced the red carpet dressed in all white and love for the one shoulder dress is totally on trend. As if you thought any different...

The woman who deserves her nickname more than anyone else I know...Heidi Klum "the body" wore her dress to perfection. Even the baby bump, now baby mountain couldn't stand in the way of her fabulous look!

And the winner is...

Alexander Wang!
My designer pick this season won the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund. Alexander Wang received $200,000 and will be mentored by the CFDA President and design icon Diane Von Furstenburg. Congrats Mr. Wang! I LOVE his designs so be sure to check him out at

Model of the Month...Katie Fogarty

Dubbed as one of the fashion industry's "mean models" not based on attitude but more so on her undeniable poker face and Katie Fogarty does sport quite a "mean mug" on the catwalk if I must say so myself. However, that doesn't stop me from absolutely loving her look! The brunette, Midwest stunner (she's from St. Louis) took a fall during Prada's Spring show but that hasn't stopped her from securing D&G and Balenciaga's fall campaigns.

NYC Fashion Week In Review

With so much to report on this's a smattering of what came down the catwalk at NYC Fashion Week showcasing the Spring 2010 Collections.

Beautiful and inspirational as always, Ralph Lauren did what he does best. Romanticize for the real woman. Celebrating the "American Worker", RL gave us a depression era emphasis that was so on time given the current economy that I almost wanted to pull out my old Polo overalls (yes...they were in the show) and go milk a cow. Well...on second thought, maybe just look like I could milk a cow if I chose to do so but not actually perform the act!

African aesthetic meets urban chic. That's exactly the result of Arise: Promise of Africa Collective. This show included the works of 4 different designers; Folake Folarin-Coker of Tiffany Amber, Eric Raisina of Eric Raisina Haute Texture, Lisa Folawiyo of Jewel by Lisa and David Tlale. Here's my favorite look from the show and I just had to throw this guy in simply because HE IS GORGEOUS! You better work those pecks Mr. Beckford.

Moving on...

Christian Suriano. I've been a fan since his days on Project Runway (one of my favorite past times) and he just seems to keep getting better. I thoroughly enjoyed the simple, yet elegant looks he sent down the runway. Cheers Christian!

Here's a brand that has always believed in "more is more". Custo Barcelona. You have to be one heck of a confident person to don these dazzling duds! What more can be said about that?

I totally LOVE Yigal Azrouel! It may be because I was blessed to be able to wear one of his designs on one of the most significant days of my life...a milestone I'll never forget but whatever the reason, this designer's dresses are extremely high on my list of elegance. If you're out there listening Yigal...keep 'em coming, you dazzle me every time!

VMA Style 2009

Although there's a lot of negative things and "strange" fashion choices I could comment on from last night's VMA's... I choose, as always, to air on the positive side of the event.

My top pick for the star who shinned the brightest on the red carpet is none other than Taylor Swift. It's not pity because of the "rude interruption" for which a formal apology has now been made but because she looked simply GORGEOUS! Guess who must have gotten the Style Mayvin one-shoulder dress memo? NICE!

Coming in at second...the beautiful, gracious and quite humble on this evening (given the circumstances), Beyonce. Wow, is all I can say! The color suits her perfectly as well as the natural look of her hair and makeup. If you're a Style Mayvin fan (and I know you are) you're definitely In the KNOW about my love for dresses with pockets...especially mini's with pockets. Beyonce got this one "just right"!

And last but not least, for my own personal purposes, I have to recognize Jermain Jackson. I am loving all things MJ! I could rock this jacket, maybe to the premiere of Michael Jackson's "This Is It" with jeans and a nice chunky heel boot. Matter of fact... Jermain, could you invite me AND let me borrow that jacket? Hey, it can't hurt to ask...can it?

What's New?

If you missed the movie in theatres, don't fret. "Valentino, The Last Emperor" is now available on DVD. This behind the scenes look at the world of Haute Couture fashion is witty, dramatic (in the true essence of fashion) and sometimes emotional. The film follows The Legendary Valentino through his final two years ending a nearly 50 year career in the industry and as almost no other can the top of his game the entire time. Valentino Garavani is "the" fashion icon!

Also new for fashion week...Saks NYC unveils it's new 3rd Floor with Charlize Theron. After nearly a year long renovation, we can all twirl around like Alice in Wonderland among 49 of the world's finest designer collections. Well...maybe you should exactly "twirl" in the store per se but I'm sure smiling excitedly would be acceptable.

Of course, in attendance - the great Anna Wintour and stylist Rachel Zoe among a myriad of other celebrity guests. For the opening Saks displayed 32, one of a kind cocktail dresses created exclusively for the launch by some of the most renowned designers in the industry such as Marc Jacobs, Vera Wang, Zac Posen, Dior and Oscar de la Renta. The much anticipated 50,000 square foot space is definitely a sight to see! Even the invitation was fabulous! Designed by Pentagram, the invite shows the floor's new brand identity, the number three, made from the names of the 49 designs. This is class at it's finest. Hats off to Saks NYC Flagship store. Doing it up in style as always!

NYC Fashion Week Style

It's that special time of year again when fashion is definitely in the air. NYC Fashion week began TODAY! So what are you wearing to the shows?

How about LV's logo sequined bag? I know you're thinking it might be a real "fashion faux pas" to wear sequins to "the tents" but one look at this statement bag and you'll see why it's a necessity to spice up any fashionably subdued ensemble. Check out for more details and pricing.

Next up... If you missed my post on May 21, 2009, here's a reminder! Don't forget TODAY is Fashion's Night Out and the Official Tee (short sleeve) can still be purchased for $30 at participating locations. See for listings. Over 700 retailers across the five boroughs of New York are encouraging the "Fun of Fashion" by hosting events tonight from 6pm to 11pm. And the great thing is, it's open to anyone and EVERYONE. No tickets needed tonight, it's VIP status for all!

And last but certainly not least...

Not in NYC? Weren't able to work your magic this year to get into Anna Sui's show (Wednesday 9/16 @ 6pm - Tent) but you still want to experience the collections of one of my favorite designers at a reasonable price? Simply go to That's right folks on September 13th, this Sunday, you too can grab the "Uptown style at prices to gossip about." If you are in NYC, you can be the first to shop this new collection at Target located at 54 Crobsy @ Spring starting today through 9/12 from 11am-8pm.

Now that's what I call a TRUE Fashion Fix!

Guess Who?

It's been a long time but guess who? It's ya girl...the one, the only, STYLE MAYVIN! I won't waste time explaining the details of my absence but please note: I've been privately getting my fashion fix. I'm BAAAAAACK! Now let's get this party started!

As the weather begins to change, here's 5 Trends you'll need to be wearing this Fall.

1. Patterns...Bye bye least for the moment

Those paisley prints we all love so much are back this year. Flirty designs like this little mini with a flowing split sleeve by Zac Posen give us a nostalgic "sexy" little house on the prairie feel.

2. Leather Jackets...RIP MJ

There's really not much more that can be said about the G.O.A.T. (Greatest Of All Time) and his unwavering fashion sense and ability to WOW us every time, however I can say that he made the short leather jacket cool to me. Who's BAD? By the looks of it, Phi is definitely in line with this trend.

3. One Shoulder Little Black Dress (see previously predicted on earlier post... I'm so on top of this game!)

I recently attended a wedding sporting a beautiful Calvin Klein dress reminiscent of this one by Sportmax and I must say...I looked HOT! This is my absolute favorite trend this Fall. Everyone from Kim Kardashian, Queen Latifah, Eva Longoria Parker and Gabrielle Union, oh...and the Style Mayvin herself has adopted this subtly sexy trend.

4. Power Belts...Yep, they're back (The always fashionable First Lady, Michelle Obama really knows how to rock them too.)
This look by Marc Jacobs is by far one of the cutest mix and match colors rendition I've seen to date. Score! More points for fashion's MJ.

5. Furry Coats...These never go out of style in my opinion.
We all have our "opinions" about fur but no matter if you prefer Faux or No-so-faux, this is a trend that simply can't be ignored. Leave it to Ralph Lauren to show us ladies how to do it big in head to toe white...another one of my personal favs.
So, now that you're "In the KNOW", do what you do best...SHOP!
