Putting it "All On the Line"

Ok...so I'm a mini-stalker! I've been stalking out Joe Zee (Elle Magazine's creative Director) who has a new show premiering TONIGHT on the Sundance channel. I'm a huge fan of the publication so when I heard that Mr. Zee, the mind behind the pages was slated to have his own show, "All On The Line", I began to dig and dig (very fashionably) through the Sundance website for more info. That was a few months ago... fast forward to early March. I began seeing previews on Sundance about the show and I must say...it sent shivers up my spine! I know that sounds crazy but I'm coo-coo for fashion! I just love that it seems Zee is not a "meanie" like many of the reality hosts can be and even regular fashion professionals in real life can be for that matter... The preview spots present him more as a "Tim Gunn" type, if I am allowed to compare two of the fashion industry's greatest.

I am psyched about the idea of seeing designers be able to create what's in their hearts and minds with the guidance of a REAL fashion guru. The premise of this weekly show is that Zee will meet with a designer who's having "challenges" with his/her clothing line and through "tough love" and a lot of inspiration, he helps them get their business back on track.

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm still a huge fan of Project Runway which should be starting a new season very soon but I must admit that Sundance definitely has their finger on the pulse of fashion with the Love Lust series (I spent all day Saturday watching this...) and Full Frontal Fashion. I am now almost hooked on watching nothing but Sundance...who knew? Want to follow me for LIVE tweets for the premiere of "All On The Line"? Please do! You know I love to talk fashion! Look me up...@therealtstrong.

Tune in tonight for the premiere of "All on the Line" at 10pm EST.

Let's Talk FASHION!

I had the wonderful opportunity to meet and talk FASHION with style guru Clinton Kelly from TLC's "What Not To Wear". The StyleMayvin crew had a teeny weeny breakdown with the technology and wasn't able to capture the last five minutes of the interview...ARG! BUT...what you are able to see is us having a fabulous time discussing his new book "Oh No She Didn't" and all types of fashion "crimes" women commit. Check it out!

Love isn't good...

Love isn't just good, it's EVERYTHING! My assistant always uses the word "Everything" when something is really, really fabulous and in this case I would have to agree with her, as well as with Mrs. Bey. Love really is Everything.

I love tees with a message and definitely those with a particularly funny or uplifting message and this one is right up my alley. The "Love is Everything" t-shirt ($64) by Wildfox Couture is cute and simple yet can be made to look incredibly chic as Beyonce did with studded leggings by E-Label. Totally rock-star status to say the least.
The tee is available in black as well as white. Perfect for any occasion! Spread love fashionistas!

Bvlgari Fragrance

Forever a fan of Bvlgari jewels and accessories, I was a little out of the loop on the fragrance. I know....StyleMayvin out of the loop? *Gasp* Well, this striking new ad featuring Kirsten Dunst made me do a double take. First, I didn't even realize it was her but secondly - if the up swept hair and super sparkling jewels weren't enough, the oversized flacon of the fragrance, Mon Jasmin Noir, she's holding while positioned next to a lion undoubtedly makes for a spectacular photo! Cudos to the shoot director and photographer for making this happen...Along with the makeup artists, wardrobe stylist (who's job was pretty easy since she's only draped in fabric...lol) and the hair stylist who don't always get their recognition, I just want to say...you guys ROCKED this one.!Now that's what I call fashion and beauty marketing at it's best. Totally made me want to run out and get it or at the very least, get a whiff of it! What about you?

Mon Jasmin Noir is exclusively available at Nordstrom but will be rolling out internationally next month.

I'm in Love with Tiffany...

I'm having a love affair...shhhhh. I LOVE the new Tiffany & Co locks. I have a thing for lockets anyway whether it be vintage, trendy or classic, it's something about the look that I simply adore! The Tiffany locks got me really excited because I've wanted a new charm bracelet for awhile and I really think an arm full of these cute little trinkets will do just the trick! Would someone please alert my husband?

Check out Tiffany.com for more fabulous styles!

Ready To Wear Spring?

Originally written for Elevate Magazine by me...T.Strong!

Spring is the time of year when the real stylistas begin to revamp their wardrobe. It's just something about the change in weather that puts us all in a really great “fashion state of mind” and this year is no different!

There are so many hot, trendy items in boutiques right now but the style that truly tops the list is 70's Glam. From pale, washed out denim and wide leg jeans to peasant blouses and wedges...the 70's are back! One of my all time favorite stores, Zara International (NYC) has tons of these of-the-moment pieces but if you still have any of your old light-colored denim skirts that you thought you would never wear again, now's the time to break them out! If skirts aren't your thing, try “The Wilder” jean by the hot, new brand “Mother”. This LA based line is so spot-on when it comes to flattering 70's fits, you'll feel like you've just stepped out of a time machine. (Available at Nordstrom)

Then there's a new take on an old classic, the Peasant Blouse and this year it ranges in a multitude of springy prints, merchandised in various ways. (Hint) Wearing this style is a great way to hide some of the extra winter pounds you may have put on while in transition back to your beach body. There's nothing like a flowy top with billowing sleeves to make you feel chic and comfortable all at the same time.

Now...don't forget the shoes! Wedges go with almost everything and this season whether it's a Cork, Leather or Rope heel, they're all the rage! Not your Mother's wedges at all, the new lower arch gives height and elongates the leg but it's so much easier on your feet...thank goodness!

Spring accessories are the outfit makers that simply cannot be over looked. A notice-me Medallion on a long chain is the latest trend in jewelry. Costume or designer pendants add a dramatic tone to your look day or night and can be worn with your favorite sleeveless tee for a laid-back look or for a more posh touch, layer on a light spring sweater or caftan. Speaking of which, Caftans are such a style statement and perfect for the on-the-go sophisticate.

Wearing a caftan in the Spring can evoke the feelings of tropical, beachy fun and it's light weight fabric will easily transition into the next few months.

Another great spring accessory is color block handbags...believe it or not. Envelope bags with clean lines and sleek detailing is the newest shape. Adding the color block design makes it fun and playful, appropriate for going out or for the office. Another fun way to freshen your look and add a little feminine detail are soft, pop color Barrettes! The new way to wear them is with your hair swept to the side to create the illusion of bangs. And, no look is complete without designer sunglasses...agreed? Well, if designer shades aren't in the spring shopping budget, go for any style that frames your face and complements you. The Spring 2011 sunglasses selection is sure to suit the preference of those fashionistas who are ready to make their outfits even more “eye-catching”.

Now lets talk colour! This spring, Orange is definitely the new black. It's the season's biggest color and it works in separates or head to toe looks. And not to be outdone, bright pink, yellow and blue are standout spring colors as well. Apparently, the brighter the better! But...don't forget snake skin is a chic print and texture that always transcends trend. Animal prints in general should always be considered a neutral color/print for your wardrobe, particularly this spring season...Leopard Dots. The jungle has certainly moved on to the fashion runways but if you're new to this trend, try adding one or two animal print accessories to your collection and quietly tip-toe your way in.

Most trends come and go but there are a few that stand the test of time and are essential to creating effortless style. Year after year, these classics are perfect for the spring season. First, a White Blouse. Nothing can beat the clean look of a crisp, new white shirt and because it pairs well with everything, you can't go wrong choosing it for any day of the week. Next, the always fabulous Trench Coat. Whether short or long, it's the perfect addition for a cool day or evening. And last, but certainly not least, a stylish pair of Flats. Although chunky heels and stilettos are what's trending right now, an amazing pair of flats are not only a welcome break for your feet and complementary to almost any outfit but they can also help you get a jump start on spring shopping, comfortably!

Spring 2011 Trends

I've been crazy busy writing for other folks lately and I want to share it all with you! Here's a piece I wrote for the Charlotte Seen Newsletter...Spring Trends!

As the weather begins to warm up, all I can think about is the key looks and must have fashion items for the season! There are so many fabulous new trends and I simply cannot wait to wear them all but there are three that top my list. 70's Glamour, Sheer & Lace and Chunky Wooden Heel Shoes.

We all want that vintage vibe as part of our wardrobe and what better way to swing back the hands of time than embracing 70's Glamour. Everything from 70's boho to a more
sophisticated 70's look, this season brings out the white washed denim, bell bottoms and peasant tops! Bright bold prints and stripes were all the rage on the runway and should be staples in your closet this Spring season as well.

Some of fashion's Fall trends are moving into Spring as well. The Maxi dress goes see through, lace continues to be a delicate accent and crochet makes an appearance in trim. These are eye-catching items that are back in full swing and are perfect in basic colors like cream, black and white. Worn with sandals in the warmer Summer months or with ankle boots and a chunky cardigan while transitioning into Spring.

No look is complete without the perfect shoe. The “it” shoe of the moment is anything with a chunky wooden heel. Some styles are reminiscent of the 70's era as well but with an more current twist. Surprisingly, they are a bit more comfortable than they look. Although we LOVE the stiletto, the chunkier heel is certainly easier on your feet.

2011 Oscars Red Carpet

The 83rd Annual Academy Awards may have lacked a little in the entertainment department, or so says the reports about the evening's hosts, but the red carpet definitely didn't disappoint. As I sat on the edge of my seat to see what fabulous gown would come next, I already knew it would be extremely difficult to crown "Best Dressed".

I must say, I was extremely impressed by how many of Hollywood's finest brought out the big "fashion" guns and after must deliberation, my Best Dressed vote goes to Cate Blanchett. I am such a huge fan of vintage looks and true haute couture so this dress literally made me squirm in my chair! The lilac, beaded and pleated Givenchy Haute Couture gown was already fabulous and then...the pop of color on the shoulder! The yellow beaded accents were a surprising yet genius addition, Loved it!
Jennifer Hudson has made such a transformation that sometimes I barely even recognize her...and I mean that in the most flattering way! I am so proud of her accomplishments as a woman, as an African American woman, as a Mom and I wife that I just gush every time I see her looking fabulous because I can tell without a shadow of a doubt that she feels fabulous as well. On this evening, J Hud looked like a picture of health and fitness in a tangerine Atelier Versace Halter gown. It fit her perfectly and it looks like her stylist agrees with me that orange REALLY IS the new black. Beautiful!
Chic elegance at it's finest... Gwyneth Paltrow. I loved this look on her toned small frame. Not many people can get away with full length metallic without looking costumey so this sleeveless, body hugging Calvin Klein Collection gown was a risky choice but it totally paid off! Then pairing it with Luis Vuitton earrings and broach added a simple touch of detail and as I always say...it's all in the details. Great choice Gwyn!
Another one of my favorites was Halle Berry. She is such a gorgeous woman that she really doesn't need a terribly sexy dress and this awards show, I was very happy to see her wearing this nude, crystal encrusted gown with a beautifully elegant ruffle train. She completes the look with Christian Louboutin peep toes (gasp) and 10 carat Neil Lane earrings (double gasp!). Flawless!
I loved all of these ladies looks but I couldn't wrap this up without a couple of honorable mentions. First, Reese Witherspoon looking 60's Chic is a black and white Giorgio Armani Prive' gown and $1 million of Neil Lane diamond and emeralds jewels.
Next, one of my award show favorite girls to watch... Natalie Portman. She continues to be one of the most fabulous looking pregnant women I have EVER seen grace the red carpet. Wearing a violet, off the shoulder Rodarte gown with Swarovski Crystal beading and empire waist. She completes the look with Jimmy Choo heels and Tiffany & Company Jewels.
