Sip-n-See - Chevrolet Cruze

This is a new series you'll be seeing from me as often as I can score a vehicle. I review cars for other publications from a more technical perspective however, since I look at everything "through the eyes of a fashionista", I would be remiss if I didn't host a little gathering when I can, just to get a take on the car from my friends and followers. If you missed this one, no worries, there are more to come.

Introducing..."Charlene" Cruze (yes...I do name each and every car I drive!)

On the day I took Charlene out for a drive and to meet some of my friends, I decided to carried along a few bottles of wine and lots of Vitamin Water...you know, just to make sure the girls had didn't get too parched on this extremely humid day.

From the front seat and navigation inspections to questions about the manual, eco version of the Cruze I was driving, all in all these ladies had a blast and trust me, "Charlene" certainly enjoyed all the attention! Our first "car guest", Joy Randall, owner of Flawless Makeup Art.

A great time was had by all and there was a lot of sippin' but definitely NO driving while sippin'. All of the ladies were great and I enjoyed telling them about the Cruze, this cute compact car, all in the name of fun and a girls day out. Speaking of compact, many were surprised by the roomy-ness of the back seats. Tinesha Matthews, co-owner and stylist at Revolution Ego hair salon, played around with the satellite radio and then, it was off to test out the backseat.

If you know like I know, there's no better place to test anything out than a hair salon so one of the other fabulous Revolution Ego stylists took time from her busy schedule to come take a look as well. Thanks Kelley Carboni-Woods. Looking good chica!

Then it was off to do a little, real world testing. How well would the Cruze fit in my friend Martina Gale's garage along with her other cars? Hmmm... She did a thorough inspection of the sunroof, of course wearing heels. What else?

Even my "mini StyleMayvin" daughter was able to get in on the fun before heading off to dance class. The booster seat fit perfectly.

Lastly, I just had to test out the manual drive wearing my own favorite shoes, the Cruze passed the "heel test" with flying colors. From high heels to Wedges, "Charlene" didn't let me down.

Stay tuned for my top 5 favorite features and what did the men think?

NYFW Spring 2012

I was BEYOND blessed to be able attend some of the most popular shows during New York Fashion Week this year. What I realized is, the StyleMayvin certainly needs an assistant and a professional photographer since I was too busy studying the clothing and ROS to get any good pictures. However, I've located online, my favorite three shows I attended (sorry if you're not one of them but I still love you all...designers and please invite me back again!)

#1 ...My New love - Chado Ralph Rucci
All I will say is aside from spotting Whoopie Goldberg across the runway, there was audible applause from the front row on a number of the looks and that's rare!

#2...My guy on the side, Michael Kors
I am a long time Michael Kors fan and each season...watching from home, he is always in my top three but seeing the collection in person is an experience like none other.

Finally...the hippest woman I have ever had the pleasure of meeting and being followed by on Twitter...the one and only Betsy Johnson. Her final walk and signature cartwheel included an upbeat club song about "boobs and butt" that I had never heard the pleasure of hearing and also included in the play-list was a rendition of a Nikki Minaj medley who I actually spotted in the audience as well. You won't have the pleasure of hearning these songs on the edited version below...guess you just had to be there. Anyway, needless to say, Betsy is a hoot and I love her!

Emmy Awards 2011

With so many beautiful gown on the red carpet at the Emmy awards this year, it's taken me quite sometime to choose my favorites but better late than never!

My #1 pick - Sofia Vergara

This woman is simply sassy and beautiful in coral! You can't tell me that a one shoulder isn't the most flattering cut there is and this Vera Wang was the perfect choice for Ms. Sophia. She added emerald green jeweled earrings, Loraine Schwartz gold bracelets and Stuart Weizman shoes to create this sensual yet chic look.

The #2 Spot goes to - Evan Rachel Wood. It was really hard to decide whether she should have the top spot but since I'm into red, as are many other trend spotters this year, she came in at a VERY close second. This black, cap sleeve Elie Saab gown fits her perfectly and the hair and makeup complemented it to a "t". And you can't go wrong with black satin, double platform, peep toe pumps by Salvatore Ferragamo, a metal cuff and matching Judith Leiber clutch now can you?

And last but certainly not least...#3 -Cobie Smulders

Blue has always been my favorite color and honestly I love it in every hue. Cobie may not have been on the list of top three for many other folks but for me, she was a knockout! The turquoise Alberta Ferretti gown totally brings out her smoldering eyes and coupled with Brian Atwood shoes, Neil Lane jewels and a Rene Caovilla clutch...perfection!

FNO 2011

This is my FAVORITE time of year because all over the world, people are gearing up for Fashion's Night Out on Thursday September 8th. I love the many events that have sprouted up all over the country in celebration of FNO that was started in none other than NYC. This year, I've already received a number of invites and since I had such a great time in 2010, I'm thinking the best event to go to this year is the same one I attended last year. New Venue and 24 local boutiques!!! Can you say "excited"?!? If you're anywhere near Charlotte, this is an event you surely don't want to miss! Get your tickets NOW at Bantastic.com!
