DVF Classic

Who isn't a fan of Diane von Furstenberg? Seriously, I am so in love with her classic designs that I could have a closet full of nothing but her collection...well, at least one of my closets anyway.

Beyond being a style icon, she is an amazing designer as well. Check out some of my favorite DVF looks, all available at

A Little Pop of Color

What I love about spring is the re-emergence of COLOR!

Nothing is more classic and beautiful than a trench coat...every woman should have one. This year, my pic for best trench is the Contrast Trim Trench by Martin Grant. Just this little pop of yellow, strategically placed, says it all!

Ooooh La La Lashes

Thanks to my friends at Belk Department Stores Corporate Office, I had the opportunity to sample the Lancome Definicils Precious Cells Mascara and since mascara, lip gloss and a little bronzer is about all I wear, I am truly in love!

Now, I must start by saying that My natural lashes aren't too bad. I don't wear falseies often because I worry about thinning out my own and I'm always on the lookout for something that will simply enhance the natural beauty. So what's the Lancome secret? "Lash Densifier Complex, with a precious plant cell extract, which helps regenerate lash condition, so they’re stronger, denser and less likely to fall-out during makeup removal." Got that right off the website...couldn't have said it better myself!

So...I put it to the test. I'm going bare face guys so get ready!

AFTER rock! I love my new mascara! Now, I'm off to complete the rest of my look for today. I'm seriously considering trying my hand at applying Eye-Shadows. Hmmmm....what cha' got Lancome?

Yves Shoe Madness

On my quest to find the hautest shoes for Spring, I stumbled and literally fell over my own two feet when I saw the Yves Saint Laurent collection. Each and every one of these shoes (all available at, made me want to get a 4th or 5th job just to purchase them all and build a bigger closet to accommodate my new babies! See for yourself...

Valentine's Day For My Man

Every year around this time, I partner up with my friends at unrefinery to make sure that both "sexes" are In the KNOW...about what to purchase their sweetheart for Valentine's Day. Ladies, pay attention! This is expert advice from some of the most fashionable men I know. Enjoy!

unrefinery: Most guys, we're guessing, don't own any proper pajamas. Judging at least by what you find in "sleepwear" and "loungewear" departments on men's clothing sites, most of us have settled on t-shirts and boxers... which is fine, but it sort of suggests that we give up on style once we get home. It's unfortunate because nice jammers as comfortable as anything you could possibly wear, while at the same time echoing a sort of old-school elegance as seen in classic cinema. Rear Window is probably the greatest pajama movie of all time, featuring Jimmy Stewart's "Jeff" Jeffries laid up with his broken leg sporting at least a half a dozen different great pairs.

And if that's the style you want to go for -- skip cashmere or silk and go with cotton broadcloth. Piping and lapels are classic touches that add extra awesome. And don't be afraid to buy even a really picky guy a pair of pajamas -- he might be picky as hell about what he wears in public, but if you stick with simple blue or white jammies you can't go wrong. And don't forget to show how much you appreciate him wearing them!

Shown left to right: Brooks Brothers, $99. Derek Rose, $128 at Sierra Trading Post.

NYFW Fall 2012 - Day 1

Are you wondering who's showing on the first day of New York Fashion Week? Well, I've got a partial list coming right up!

But first, I have to say how excited I am to see Rachel Comey. Not just because of the ridiculously awesome shoes she creates, but also because she's the one woman who started off making menswear that was so irresistibly gorgeous that women bought it too...just in smaller sizes. Now, that's what I call fashion influence.

Also, one of my favorite shows I attended last season, Chado Ralph Rucci, was so (bleeping) crazy that I simply cannot imagine what he's come up with for Fall. Seriously, there was a standing ovation and everything! Meanwhile I was nearly in tears!

Spring In Your Step

What better way to add a little Spring in your step than a fabulous pair of 4 and 3/4 inch open toe, platform heels by Brian Atwood?

I can't seem to think of anything better than showing off fresh, yet simply manicured does in these shoes. The Brian Atwood Raffia-Heel Colorblock d'Orsay Sandal ($1452) makes me smile from my head...yup you guessed it...right down to my toes. My readers know I love, love, love pink and this spring season is all about color so with the design elements of colorful fringe woven raffia, I am certifiably in love! Mr. Brian Atwood, you sure do know how to treat a lady! *Wink* Smooches!

Macy's and StyleMayvin Gift Card Contest

I did a contest with Macy's for a gift card during the Christmas season and it was so well received, we decided to do it again! So here's your chance, all you lucky SM readers, to win a $50 Macy's gift card and who couldn't use that this time of year?

With the combination of Black History Month and Valentine's Day, I thought it best to give you two ways to win!

First...if you pride yourself on being in the KNOW about art and especially if you're in the Charlotte, NC area where this artists' work has been and continues to be featured in our local galleries. At both the Mint Museum uptown as well as the Harvey B. Gantt Center, Romare Bearden's work can be enjoyed.

As per the website, "His success as an artist was recognized with his first solo exhibition in Harlem in 1940 and his first solo show in Washington, DC, in 1944. Bearden was a prolific artist whose works were exhibited during his lifetime throughout the United States and Europe. His collages, watercolors, oils, photomontages and prints are imbued with visual metaphors from his past in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, Pittsburgh and Harlem and from a variety of historical, literary and musical sources". Here's an example of one of his classic pieces I love.

So, to enter the contest from an Arts perspective, simple tweet the artists' name along with #BlackHistoryMonth to me @therealtstrong or @stylemayvin.

Also, since Valentine's Day is coming up quickly and Macy's is doing a wonderful initiative in support of the American Heart Association's Go Red For Women movement by donating $2 up to $250,000 for every tweet or Facebook status that includes #heart@Macys, I thought including this in the contest would not only add more opportunities to win but also to help raise funds. With that said, in addition to posting this hashtag/message on the Macy's FB page, you can post it on my page "StyleMayvin" page and/ or tweet it to me at either of the two handles above.

So get out there and start tweeting and face booking! The contest ends at midnight on February 11th. The winner will be announced on Sunday 2/12.

Viola Davis - I'm a fan!

I was definitely a fan of Viola Davis as an actress but now as a fashion figure and natural beauty, I must say I am more than impressed. Beyond a woman in love with her own natural hair, she is simply inspiring. She is such a humble woman, beautiful to me, both inside and out. Continued success to you Viola! xoxo
