Tidy Whities

Written By: StyleMayvin Staff Writer Shelby Christie

Winter whites are making an appearance this month on the red carpets. What is better than the perfect holiday pairing...Red and white! I spotted some of my fav looks and thought I would share them with all of my stylistas! I figured you could draw a little holiday fashion inspiration from these woman’s winter white looks…They aced it!

Gwyneth Patrol wore my absolute favorite look. At the premiere of her newest movie Country Strong, She sported a long sleek white dress by Emilio Pucci. It seemed ordinary from the front, but the back…ah, the back! The back of this dress is a contradiction to the front the dress! The dramatic backless laced-up, cut out bleeds all the way down Gwyneth’s leg. The statue-esque blonde looks stunning and the cut out reveal just enough leg to be sexy, without over-kill. She did a great job of choosing a look that would accentuate her height.

My next pick kept it simple when it came to wearing white. Beyoncé Knowles wore a white Antonio Berardi sheath. It displayed a modern spin on elegance. This ensemble is not as dramatic as the looks as we are used to seeing from Ms.Bey. I will chalk this demur look up to the fact that she was there to display the jewelry…Not her fierceness. I will say the dress hugged her curves in all the right places…it definitely flattered her figure.

Anne Hathaway wore my final favorite white look to the NY premiere of Love & Other drugs. It was frilly, girly-chic number by Valentino. She looked sweet and vintage in this dress. Lace detailing and a big bow amp up the girly volume on this dress and adds to the 60’s vintage feel of the look. This little dress packs BIG punch…Well done Anne!

Born To Be ME!

TODAY is my Birthday! The StyleMayvin has graced through another fabulous year and my readers know, I usually don't go all personal and mushy out here in cyber space but my friends know me better. So today...I feel like sharing.

December 13th is the day that I was literally and figuratively Born To Be ME!

This little 3 year old girl...already a Fashionista even before the word existed, was said to be just a bit different (but in a good way). She is Me.

The ABC outfit has to be my all time favorite! I'm told, I chose it myself because in 1977, bell bottoms and a high waist were all the rage. Not only was the look super-cute, the ABC message also showed that just a few days after my 3rd birthday (hence the traditional b-day photoshoot), I was just as cute as my new stylish look but more importantly (in my little girl voice) "I am smart..." proudly telling the photographer "I already know my ABC's". Hair positioned and properly coiffed by my Mom, a classic stylista in her own right (I learned from the best) and fully accessorized with my new gifts-- a beautiful necklace, bracelet and ring. I must say, I admire this child.

I always looked at this picture and wondered if "the little girl" was happy the day of this shoot (the first of many to come) because of the rigid stance and smile-less look on her face but now, as I look closer, I see a DREAM in her eyes... not to mention a wonderful attempt at a straight-faced, just-a-hint-of-teeth look (LOL...she totally perfects it later)... and I smile a huge toothy grin. Forever a BIG dreamer and apparent lover of all things fashion, I wish I could whisper in her ear, assuring her (in my big girl voice) "everything turns out EXACTLY as you dreamed it would. Oh and one more little secret...it just keeps getting better as the years go by!

Happy Birthday to Me!

Christian Louboutin Spring 2011

By: StyleMayvin Staff Writer Shelby Christie

Christian Louboutin has put fourth some of the most memorable footwear of all time. His shoes may just be the most recognizable in the world…So much so he decided to trademark his signature “red bottom”. Christian Louboutin has made his Spring/Summer 2011 collection available for all of us stylistas to enjoy! I took a look and thought I’d share my top picks with you…

In FIRST place is a pump that is just as elaborate as its name. The Samira Strass 100MM is a four inch blue pump. It is described as “Jewelry for the foot”. I absolutely love it because it is so funky and unique that ANY women can make it wearable. I refer to it as “the chameleon” shoe. It will conform to the style of each woman that wears it! There is a waiting list for this one…but it is expected to be available no later than December 12th 2010 for $3,095! Dear, Santa….
In SECOND place is a fierce 6 inch platform pump…sling-back of course darling! The Lady Peep Sling 150MM is a dipped in a nude colored glitter. This shoe is every gals dream! This shoe appeared last spring in a pump, now Louboutin has brought her to us in a sling-back. I love the height of this shoe; it gives drama to any look. Plus it is party dress approved…just in time for New Years! You can have this FAB pair of pumps for $895 at ChristianLouboutin.com.
Now, I am a faithful “Boot girl”! I love boots…in all shapes, sizes, and suede! So my THIRD place pick is, of course, a cute military-style bootie. The Loubout 100MM is a 4 inch, cotton canvas masterpiece. Its shimmery fabric and silver facets make it fun and flirty for spring. The cotton canvas is a plus also for the weather transition…cotton breathes and the peep-toe will make it easy for you to show off those summer time pedicures! These can be on your feet for $895. OH! Louboutin suggests you go up a half-size when purchasing these…looks like they tend to run a teeny bit small.

A pair of Christian Louboutin’s in your closet is like a cherry on top of a sundae…hints the “red bottom”!

Fake = FAUX Fabulous

What if you were the owner of one of the following brands: Gucci, Fendi, Coach, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Tory Burch, Marc Jacobs, Yves Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta, Jimmy Choo or Chloe? Would you like to see your company's percentage of 20 Million American dollars simply disappear? I. THINK. NOT.

Purchasing fake or counterfeit products of any kind is FAUX fabulous! Period.

For years, Harper's Bazaar has been working to expose criminal activities connected to the sale of counterfeit products through an initiative called "Fakes Are Never In Fashion™". Now, I know that most designer handbags are out of the realm of affordability for most but that's ok, as you all know, StyleMayvin is more about the actual design and style of an item versus the label and price. If you are in the tax bracket that can afford to purchase $1000+ handbags, by all means, go for it!!! However, if not, don't assume that purchasing a "look-a-like" will be just as good because it wont. Did you know that the sales from fake products fund sweat shops, drug cartels, child labor and sometimes even terrorism? I didn't know that myself but thanks to a recent email we received, StyleMayvin is now In the KNOW...

And...now that you KNOW too, here's a great way to do your part!

  • Don't purchase fakes. Simple.

  • Support your favorite designers by learning how to spot a fake. I've been told that even upscale shops have been guilty of selling counterfeit products. *Clutches Pearls*
  • KNOW your product. Do the research and be aware of where the label stitching should be, if the logo should be on the metal parts of the bag like the zipper, snaps or buckle among other signs of authenticity.

  • Beware of online auction scams. I personally don't purchase what I cannot see prior to spending my money unless it's from a reputable site.
  • Remember, if the price is too good to be true...it probably is.

  • And lastly...if you want to be a concerned citizen and blow the whistle on an operation you have first hand knowledge of, report it at http://www.fakesareneverinfashion.com/

So now that you KNOW... What will you do?

Velvet Balzer - Key Piece #1

There are few fashion items that are able to go from day to night successfully and not look "overworked" but a velvet blazer definitely falls in the NOW and LATER category.

You probably have a really cute cocktail dress in your closet that this blazer would complement for a night out on the town or dinner with the girls. Or...maybe that pair of boyfriend jeans and a lightweight sweater during the day? Either way, I have three fab jackets for you in a variety of price ranges to fit any budget.

The first adds a little dazzle to your look. The Juicy Couture Velvet Blazer ($298) is a classic cut with a little something extra that you'll enjoy having in your closet for years to come.

Many times as a taller woman I have problems finding blazers with sleeves that are not 3/4 length...on purpose. When I want my sleeve to hit right at the wrist or beyond, I turn to Banana Republic. They have a great selection of "tall" items on line but that still fit a small frame with sizes ranging from 2-16. I simply love the tailored silhouette of this Banana Republic Velvet Blazer ($175).

The final price point ($98) is this beautiful Velvet Blazer from Gap. The pushed sleeves is the perfect look for the day.
And...you you want to add a little more spice, pick up a velvet blazer in a jewel tone color. I simply adore a fabulous emerald green one I purchased at H&M years ago. Such a classic piece will never wear out it's welcome in my closet.

Stay tuned for more Key Pieces to make you and your wardrobe camera ready both night and day!

Victoria's Secret Fashion Show 2010

As a former special events and fashion show production company owner, I appreciate the major production efforts that go into creating the Annual Victoria Secret Fashion Show. For those who are event novice and have never been a part of the fashion industry on a serious level, the chaos and the glamour seems like a lot of fun and it is...on some levels. My old partners (G,B and A plus 1) know like I know that you have to be a really special type of person to actually LOVE this stuff and want to do it again year after year, month after month and event after event. So...I'm dedicating this post to the wonderfully, creative and talented men and women who literally make the show happen.

Do you know this name? Jermaine Brown... He is the Choreographer for the 2010 VS Fashion Show, a title he has held for 3 years running. Check out his bio and reel showing his work and accomplishments at http://www.jermainebrowne.com/. Seriously, this man is truly talented. CONGRATULATIONS on another job well done with the VS Fashion Show! Smooches!

Hector Lopez, Editor for the VS Fashion Show is beyond awesome! His resume speaks for itself but I just had to throw out yet another name of a behind the scenes crew member who makes this show a huge success. Cudos to all!

Ok...so now that I've gotten a couple of shout-outs taken care of and trust me, there are many more people who have worked on the VS Fashion Show making it a spectacular event but I would be remiss not to mention my top three looks! Plus, I gotta stay true to the StyleMayvin vow to keep you In the KNOW... So, here they are!

My Favorite VS Angel - Chanel Iman!

She rocked the glittery gold runway with fabulous white wings but most importantly wearing my #1 BEST LOOK of the show...a 25 pound pair of Bubble Wings! LOVED IT!!!

My #2 Pick is Alessandra Ambrosia who is also my second favorite VS Model. She totally rocked the opening of the "Wild Things" segment with this look!

Rounding out my TOP 3 is Karolina Kurkova in Peacock Feathers.

As you can see by my list, I am a huge fan of the wings. Out of the 34 models, only 21 get to wear the infamous wings! What you have to remember is drama in a show like this is the key. It's not your straight runway, NY Fashion Week type show...this show is total entertainment.

Did you miss it? Well, here's a few highlight videos for your enjoyment. You can thank me later...

Holiday Dressing!

If you're still in search of the perfect outfit that will make you the talk of the evening at your Holiday office party or just to hang out with friends this joyous season, boy have I got some of ideas for you! Check me out on FOX News Rising.

Holiday Fashion Survival Kit

Written by StyleMayvin Staff Writer: Shleby Christie

I have 3 simple ways to avoid any type of wardrobe crisis during your holiday festivities. I know planning and coordinating can sometimes leave your holiday outfit at the bottom of your to-do list…But with these easy steps you will have a no-fuss, festive look for your holiday gatherings.

Tip one is to consider a cardigan and it put it together with simple pieces. If you have a tailored pair of pants or even a sleek pair of jeans they should serve as your foundation, alongside a basic cotton tee. These items are simple, which allow you to be very bold in the cardigan you choose to accompany the look. When looking for a cardigan keep your eye open for color and slight detail. Try a simple solid color cardigan with ruffle detailing. For a more festive feel try a cranberry (great alternative to the usual red) colored cardigan. For the ultimate glam cardigan go for the sequined cardigan. It is bold and will not clash with basic pieces like jeans and a tee. There is a great one to consider by Forever21. It is a silver, sequined, number. Find it at Forever21.com.

Tip two is to add a bold accessory. I recommend you stick with a necklace. It will be less fuss than a ring or bracelet. It will not be in the way while you are preparing food, greeting guests, ECT. Choose a chunky embellished piece. The size and bulk of the necklace will make the centerpiece of a more refined look, while the embellishments add some holiday glitz. When you wear such an assertive accessory you will need to be subtle with the rest of your look. Less is more! I found the perfect holiday accessory by Ann Taylor. It is a gold chain necklace that has pearls in varied sizes and rhinestones on it. It also has gold fringe on it to give you a little bit of edge. Check it out at AnneTaylor.com.

The final tip is to ALWAYS go to a good 'ol boot cut jean! In any situation that may arise during the holidays, that may prevent you from reaching your full fashion potential, a pair of boot cut jeans will save the day. A dark wash is the best for all shapes and looks less casual than lighter washes. The cut of the jeans will give you a shape without fitting to snug. My favorite pair is by Martin. They are a dark wash, stretch denim. You can get them at MartinClothes.com. These jeans are great to pair with a dressy top or sweater for an effortless holiday look. Why not add on Tips one and two to have a fab, festive get-up!?

American Music Awards 2010

The red carpet for the AMA's didn't really inspire me too much this year BUT there were a few stand out folks...Here's my favorite looks.

Rihanna gorgeous in this red hot Elie Saab long sleeve, lace gown. This look totally worked for her...including the hair. Work RiRi!

Next...Of course, I would choose my all time favorite silhouette. Jessica Alba looks fabulous working this LBD! This dress is the perfect length, the chosen shoes and accessories...also perfect and her hair...Perfect once again! Cudos to Jessica's stylist...batting 3 for 3!

And last but certainly not least is another style icon who almost always seems to make my top red carpet looks list for every award show...the always graceful, Heidi Klum. And,..as usual, she certainly didn't disappoint me. This black floor length embroidered gown with velvet belt trimmed in red is THE BIZNESS!

I'm thinking I really should make a cameo appearance next year. Hmmm...

I'm a sucker for an elegantly draped neckline and this top by Emilio Pucci is, as my Assistant would say, "Everything"!

Typically prints are the signature and most well known looks derived from the Pucci collection but the fashion house maintains a top spot on my list of creative, trendy yet classic designs. Showing off one of my favorite trends this season, FEATHERS, this top is not the exception, it's the RULE! Paired with almost anything at all, this Emilio Pucci, simply named "Knit Top with Feathers" will upgrade your total look becoming a key piece in your wardrobe. Available at NeimanMarcus.com for $965.

Show Me Your Fingers

Gloves are an awesome accessory to any Fall/Winter ensemble. I purchased a pair of fingerless gloves a few years ago and they are still one of my favorites however, these are simply VERA...

Does it get any better than this? The bridal and ready-to-wear designer, Vera Wang has created a little something we can all own to look fabulous when it's a little brisk out and with 5 colors to choose from at such an affordable price ($26), it's the PERFECT Holiday gift!

Lovin Levi's

Recently, I fell in love ONCE AGAIN with Levi's Jeans!

I had a pair as a teenager...actually a few pair. I know you had a pair so I'm sure you'll feel like I do about the new custom fit Levi's for women. They've got every shape covered because as they say "All A$$e$ were not created equal." Check it out...everything from jeans for the Slightly Curvy body, a Demi Curve and Bold Curves.
Some ladies have such a hard time trying to figure out what fit in denim is best for them. In the past, I did a segment on FOX News Rising to give you a few tips but if you missed it, here's a quick recap of the most important points.
-Don't be afraid to have your jeans altered. Jeans and trousers can give you your most flattering look when tailored.
-If you find a pair that fits you perfectly...buy 2 or maybe even 3 if different washes are available. Don't fight a good thing!
-Low-rise is NOT for everyone! The most flattering shape is actually a medium rise.
-When in doubt, choose a darker wash. Dark denim will always make your thighs appear smaller. I don't know a woman on Earth who wouldn't want that look!
If you're still unsure...just take the Levi's Quiz. I'm telling you, they have thought of everything so there's no excuse to subject your sexy curves, whether big or small, to anymore ill fitting jeans!
So now...in the words of my friends at Levi..."FINALLY, JEANS FOR US. GO FORTH"!

Wrapping Up For The Holidays

By StyleMayvin Staff Writer: Shelby Christie

Most of us are familiar with holiday themed scarves…We have all spotted them on those unsuspecting fashion victims. The fire-truck red scarf hangs limp around their necks, adorned with knitted snowmen and ornaments. In worst cases the scarf is trimmed in some kind of faux fur that resembles “snow”. STEER CLEAR of those sorts of holiday scarves!

I have just the thing to replace them! Printed scarves offer you color and elegance. They are also a great option to have on hand to fend off the frost…Not to mention they are great for dressing up an outfit for holiday gatherings.

A print scarf will offer you a regal look. They usually have some type of gold stitching incorporated in them and this is what gives it a nice, soft sheen. Without making it appear glossy or shiny, the metallic stitching adds some depth and contrast. I would recommend you consider a combination of neutrals when searching for a printed scarf for yourself. This will allow you versatility. You will be able to pair a neutral with almost anything in your closet…for any occasion you may need it for. Neutral tones also have the benefit of not clashing with the metallic embroideries. I discovered a great option at Forever21.com, for a steal! This teal paisley scarf is just $7.80. This is great, inexpensive, way for you to dress up your holiday gathering get-ups!

The Blues

By StyleMayvin Staff Writer: Shelby Christie

This season is filled with a sultry hue that seduces and tempts the most willful fashionistas. Blues are the best kept secret this year. Many of us might have been told a few tall tales about the color…Well it is NOT just a lighter shade of black; It has a purpose of its own! From powder to electric, you can’t go wrong when you’ve got the blues! But for now let’s focus on the softer side of blue…navy.

A favorite blue hue of mine is navy because it is a great alternative to the color black. It adds a touch of sophistication with a splash of subtle tint. If you are going to give Navy blue a try, I would recommend wearing it as key piece…like a blazer, a coat, or well tailored slack. A great jacket I would suggest to you is carried by Ann Taylor. It is a dark navy, wool, striped jacket. It’s marked down on www.anntaylor.com for $119.00. This blazer is really well constructed. You can pair it with jeans for a casual look or dress it up with a nice skirt.

The color navy is great option to consider wearing for the holidays. Red clothing tends to hibernate in our closets until the holiday season. You will get much more use out of a piece in this shade of blue, it can be worn in any season without looking out of place…like red often can. A great option I found for the holidays is a Donna Morgan dress, priced at $158.00. It is a navy, jersey-knit dress. I love the embellishments it has...It gives it a festive spunk, without over-killing the bedazzle element. You can check it out at www.Nordstrom.com .

Every now and again every lady gets the blues!

Resort to This!

Cruise and Resort wear is in full swing! These collections are made specifically for those who go on Holiday and vacation in the warm Mediterranean areas of the world. This inter-season line of clothing is a reminder of summer's past and the summer's to come in the States. High fashion houses like Chanel (see Cruise Collection runway show in the post below), Versace, Dior, Ralph Lauren and Gucci create looks for a season originally meant for wealthy customers and "jet-setters" but today you can find many Cruise Collections from a variety of designers to fit every budget.

I am personally a Gucci fan and if you find as I do that having a quality handbag is high on the list of important items to have, here's my favorites from the Gucci Handbags Cruise Collection!

The Gucci Heritage Medium Tote is my top pick of the collection. This light tobacco leather with the 3 line signature green/red/green stripe has clean design lines and would look chic on the wrist of any woman! Available to ship by 4/8/11 for $1350

Second in the lineup...Gucci took it back to the vintage look. I LOVE this bag! Gucci Vintage Web Tote ($1290) boasts the double G repeat pattern and the the style lines are vintage yet classic. Who wouldn't want to be seen sporting this one?

And last but not least...metallics are totally in this season and in Metallic Mauve? Come on Gucci...you're killing me with this one!!! I NEED IT!!! The GG Twins Medium Hobo Bag ($980) is not one to rock daily ladies. Not that it's a special occasion bag because it's metallic but it's definitely a conversation piece. Produced in guccissima leather with complimentary double G nickel and light golden hardware, this bag makes me speechless!

Cruise Time

Cruise is one of my favorite collections to see each year not only because I LOVE the tropics but also because the colors and fabrics of the Cruise collections really speak to who StyleMayvin is. If you missed it or if you don't know what Cruise is...look no further. Let Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel show you how it's done! Be sure to check out Part 1 and 2!!!

A Taste of Tweed

By: StyleMayvin Staff Writer Shelby Christie

Tweed blazers have a chic and timeless look that is perfect for the fall. It offers you men’s-wear appeal blended with an equestrian flare. You can prep it up with a crisp collar shirt, or rock it funky with a chunky scarf. Tweed blazers vary in cut and patterns. Boden offers up a great looking blazer with pocket accents for a steal at $198. When choosing a tweed blazer yourself, here are three major things to consider…Pattern, sleeve length, and cut.

The larger the pattern on the blazer, the bolder the look it gives off. This style may be a great option for a tall woman. The statuesque woman’s frame can handle the depth of the pattern without looking drowned in a bulk of print. When choosing a sleeve length you want to be mindful of your height and of the blazer’s function. If you want to wear layers underneath your tweed blazers you should go for a full length sleeve because quarter length sleeves don’t allow for long sleeves to be worn with it. Quarter length sleeves are a great option for petite women. It will allow her to have the classic look of the tweed blazer, without appearing overpowered by too much fabric. Plus, showing a little skin never hurt! Now for the most important detail to consider when choosing a blazer... The cut. This rule will apply for all shapes and sizes of women: look for a well-tailored blazer that is cut with a cinch in the waist. This will create curves for any type of shape and create a waist as well.

Whether you wear it funky or button it up Prep-school style…DO give this classic a try!

Mitsubishi and the StyleMayvin

My followers know, I don't usually do car reviews but I thought hey...the fashionable ladies who don't live in NYC or some other major city must be driving around in style so it's important for them to Stay in the KNOW...on the most stylish rides!

For 2011, Mistubishi takes it's line of crossovers to an all new direction and don't be surprised if you see them in all levels of price brackets very soon. The Outlander family...it's a takeover mission. With the crossover market growing, especially among the Generation Y buyers who are always looking for affordable, fun transportation, Mistubishi introduces the Outlander Sport.

On a recent trip to Cabo San Lucas, I...the StyleMayvin was among a few of the hand picked websites and publications selected for a superior driving experience with Mitsubishi's new 2011 Outlander Sport and I had a BLAST! Along with my drive partner Tim who writes for High Snobiety and a few other great people, we drove across Mexico on over an hour long drive, gazing upon the breathtaking views and dodging the cows that randomly cross the road without warning...interesting experience but thoroughly impressive.

For starters, the sleek yet aggressive front end styling gives it a presence demanding look without being overdone. In true style and fashion, it's accessorized appropriately. Mitubishi's Product Strategy Manager, Brian Arnette says this design is only the beginning of brand recognition in the street. The ergonomic design inside doesn't have a ton of buttons however the focus is more on the "touch points". Here's where Mistubishi really considers the driver. These "touch points" are areas that the driver has to touch regularly to navigate the car like the steering wheel and shift knob so both are leather, not plastic. And it's a very nice leather too! The one touch start/stop engine switch means, ladies...no searching through your purse for keys and the Passive Entry Systems add to the "addictive features" of the vehicle. The only thing I missed was a special place to actually put my purse! I mean, the Gucci needs it's own spot to rest right? Maybe they can add that feature especially for me?

One feature that I absolutely loved is the glass sunroof. It's HUGE...and it has LED light rails that have 3 settings for mood and ambiance. The colors available can even coordinate with your look for the night! It's a fun and creative feature that adds a super hot element of design. To top it off, the vehicle also offers the FUSE hands free link system that connects to BlueTooth. Drivers can plug in their contacts on the navigation system and all of your music from an iPod or even a simple thumb drive. With this feature, drivers are able to use voice recognition to hear all of the music we love. Stylistas...let me tell you, in this car, not only will we look good when we step out of it, we will look fab driving it. Now...who wants to be the talk of the town?

Thanks so much to the Mistu team! After enjoying the Outlander Sport drive, experiencing all the vehicle has to offer, loving the amenities of the same ME-Cabo resort on Nikki Beach where celebs like Diddy, Adam Sandler and Tara Reid have partied, the shopping, dinners and major entertainment that was literally as HOT AS FIRE and the most relaxing spa experience EVER...I certainly look forward to the next one!
